British Polymer Clay Guild

Allan Marshall

Allan Marshall

Miniature food is my speciality.

Making lifelike miniature food can take many hours for each piece as the perfectionist in me insists that the colours be true, and the size accurate. However, it is a very satisfying activity.

Realism is achieved purely by looking at things, noting colours/variations and sizes and satisfying myself

If I am not happy then the items are rejected (sold on the Guild stand at Miniatura for Cancer Research)

Here are some examples, and you can see many more on www.polymini.co.uk

Picture
Baked Potato with Tuna and Sweetcorn
Tuna is grated clay lightly bonded with liquid clay to retain texture. Liquid clay is also used (coloured yellow) to represent melted butter. All other pieces are of blended fimo clay

Picture
Cannelloni
After blending pasta coloured clay I used an extruder to form the empty tubes. Fillings are blends of grated clay to represent the meat and ricotta/spinach The sauces are coloured liquid clay

Picture
Roast Beef Dinner
Complex due to number of individual components and also the cane to represent the ‘rare Cooked beef. Gravy again coloured liquid clay

Picture
Tartlets
These are created as per the workshop held at Lichfield in march. Ready made canes being used for the pineapple, orange and banana slices. The cherries and strawberries are handmade
(with liquid Clay as juice) and acrylic texture paste as cream

Picture
Apples
This is a crate of Granny Smiths. Apple is a blended clay for main colour with dusting of artists' chalk pastels for the colour around the stalk.

Picture
Leeks
These use a skinner blend of three colours. Then slices are used to build up the individual leek.

Picture
Ham Salad
Again comprised of several components. Ham is an assembled cane from various ‘ham’ coloured clay. Ready made canes for egg, tomato and cucumber

Picture
Cream Cakes
These I have had to do from memory as I cannot eat cakes so buying them to model is wasteful for me. All formed from clay, chocolate icing is coloured liquid clay. Cream again is acrylic texture paste. I had to devise a method for creating the cream horn.

Picture
Preparation Board
The knife and dish are bought items (no point reinventing the wheel when they are readily available). All other items created from clay and assembled to represent a stew being prepared
